When I was back in production last week, I noticed Brent had taken a break from operating the press to jump inside–literally–and tweak the roller calibration. I grasped (most of ) what he explained to me, but the most fascinating thing to me was how many rollers are contained in just one press. The Shinohara has 19 rollers. On each of its two sides. And in order for Brent to adjust the accuracy of the way ink coats the rollers, he had to take out every single one. Yikes! Luckily this doesn’t happen very frequently!
