Hot off the Press: Postcards for Jim Lommasson at the New American Art Union
Written on November 13, 2009 by Nicole Lavelle

Oaks Park Pentimento runs through December at NAAU in SE Portland.
Postcard, 1/1, Environment 120# Cover Natural, Pantone soy-based inks.
Pentimento: n. The reappearance in a painting of an underlying image that had been painted over. The word derives from the Italian pentirsi, meaning to repent.
Jim Loammasson‘s show at the New American Art Union documents a rich part of Portland’s history through photographs of painted and re-painted carousel panels at Oaks Park. His images are beautiful portraits of lost imagery, and part of a weaving narrative involving a great flood, Oregon landmarks, layers of paint and a photographer who stopped to look twice.
Don’t take our word for it, head over to NAAU and see for yourself. The show runs through December 20. If you can’t make it, see photographs from the show online here.
